Palma Pasta is celebrating 25 years in Mississauga by giving a little something extra back to its customers.

This Sunday, the pasta retailer/caterer will give away three Saeco espresso machines to three lucky clients who filled out ballots at Palma Pasta locations across the city.

Marsilio and Palma Petrucci moved to the Cooksville area in 1966, some 10 years after arriving in Canada from Italy, and have lived there since.

In 1985, they opened their first retail location, at Queentario Plaza in Cooksville, which is still operating to this day.

Since then, they've opened two other Mississauga locations — Michaelangelo Plaza (Erin Mills) in 1992 and Semenyk Crt. (Erindale) in 1997 — and plan to set up shop in Oakville within the next month.

"My mom was always into foods," said Palma Pasta owner/operator Anthony Petrucci, whose sisters, Filomena and Lori, are also active in the business. "Italian food is something that we knew.

"My parents never envisioned it would grow to the magnitude it is now," continued Petrucci. "It's been through hard work and determination that we got to success. We live in Mississauga, we've seen it grow and we never left. We try to give back to the community that made us this great."

The recipes, original family creations, have remained the same over the years.

"That is why we're one of the most popular pasta retailers in Mississauga," said Petrucci. "We've never deviated."

The company has always taken dietary concerns into consideration. For example, it has introduced more chicken and whole wheat products over the years.

And it also treats clients like family, said Petrucci.

"We're unique in the sense that we know all our clients," he said.

When the shop first opened, Petrucci recalls, some of the regulars would come in with their kids; today, those kids are coming in with their kids, he added.
